A powerful seismic activity that was estimated as a maximum magnitude of about 7.6 hit on a Saturday near the southern shoreline of Philippines. There was widespread panic in the village due to the predicted occurrence of the tsunami that was announced at midnight by the Philippines’ authorities.
The quake struck at 10: The USGS indicated that it occurred at a depth of 37 p.m at 32 km below the earth surface, or 20 miles). Initial reports indicated little in terms of damage or casualties.
Data shows that tsunami threat from this earthquake is past. According to EMSC, the quake was about 63 kms deep. The U.S. Geological survey noted that another magnitude 6.4 tremor hit the southern philippines later on.

According to the magnitude and location of the earthquake, the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center initially predicted tsunami waves at the southern Philippines, parts of Indonesia, Palau and Malaysia. Nevertheless, the center later rescinded on its tsunami warning.
Many people in Okinawa Prefecture, especially the entire coast were asked to evacuate.
