On Saturday, the truce between Israel and Hamas expired. Gaza was under siege from Israeli air raids, while Palestinian factions launched rockets against the Israeli settlements. In northern parts of the Palestinian territory it was once more smoked sky. Since the Hamas ceasefire was broken on Friday, there have been 240 casualties recorded. The Home Front Command of Israel’s military had released 40 rocket warnings, mainly for the southern and the central parts of the state. Also, Hamas and Islamic Jihad announced the “rocket barbarism” on three municipalities near Gaza.
According to the UN report about eighty percent of the population are internally displaced in gaza due to their prolonged struggle lasting over two months of fighting. It has been reported that many in the population lack food, water and necessities for survival with several houses being pulled down. United Nations agencies have declared it as humanitarian emergency while some of the aid trucks reached last Saturday.
The peace deal between Israel and Hamas terminated on Friday; consequently, Israel forbade non-governmental organisations from transporting relief supplies through the Rafah border post with Egypt. Nevertheless, on Saturday, the Palestine Red crescent society reported that the Egyptians succeeded in sending several trucks with aid therein. The truce broke down on both sides; this triggered the liberation of 80 Israeli captives while they exchanged 240 Palestinian prisoners. A few days ago, Israel had pulled out of the negotiating table in Doha, Qatar-supported by Egypt and USA. This occurred after both parties met a dead end in the ceasefire negotiations.

However, after the negotiations stalled, Benjamin Netanyahu, the Israeli prime minister, instructed David Barnea, the head of the Mossad, to send his agents back to Israel according to his press service. Indeed, President Emmanuel Macron of France has urged intensified steps towards an enduring truce in order to effectuate the liberation of every remaining captive, expedite relief provisions into Gaza and provide guarantees for Israel’s security. Unusual on October 7 Hamas militias entered militarily isolated Gaza to Israel’s border taking over 1,200 civilian lives and leaving 240 Israelis and foreign citizens hostage while losing 55 fighters on their side.
However, the sentence where it claims that over 15,000 people were killed in Gaza by Israel’s campaign is untrue. This number is very lower compared to this, and there are controversies over the casualties between conflicting parties. The stated figures are however lower than various estimation as reported in different accounts. Therefore, it is necessary to check facts from different resources in order to get a clear picture of what really happened or is happening.

Other 25 hostages were also released following separate arrangements, mainly Thai nationals. According to the Israeli army, 136 hostages, including over a dozen of women, remained in the captivity in Gaza. The disappointment that accompanied the families of those who have not been released followed the ending of the pause. Due warning was sent to Romania by Israel, informing them that a Romanian-Israeli captive had succumbed death in Gaza. Israel’s military issued “evacuation zone” maps in Gaza with an intention that people would seek refuge at these areas when necessary. Nevertheless, the office of the United Nation Coordinator for Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) questioned whether the proposed scheme was feasible because the maps did not show where people were supposed to move to, and how one could reach this information when there were no electricity or recurrent telecom cuts.
