On Sunday Hamas’ military wing, the Izz ad-din al-Qassam Brigades revealed that their commander for Northern Brigade, Ahmed Al-Ghandour together with three other leading members were allegedly killed by the Israeli army in operation conducted against the Islamists. The assertion tagged Ghandour as part of its military council and also listed more than three other dead commanders, including Ayman Siiyam, allegedly the chief leader of rockets launching forces, according to reports by Israeli media channels.
Abu Anas, the nom de war of Ghandour, was put on the economic sanctions blacklist by the United States in 2017 after he was declared a specially designated global terrorist.
It also said that he was a “former Hamas shura council member, as well as a Hamas political bureau”.

It added that Ghandour “has been involved in many terrorist operations,” one of them being an attack on an Israeli military outpost at the Kerem Shalom border crossing conducted in 2006 where two Israeli soldiers died and four others were wounded.
In 2017, the US designated Ahmed Al-Ghandour, also known as Abu Anas, as “Specially Designated Global Terrorist”. He was formerly in Hamas’ Shura council and a member of the political bureau according to the US State Department.> He participated in one of the major terrorist operations, such as killing two Israelis with others wounded during the attack on an Israeli military outlet in the Kerem Shalom border crossing.
Five years prior to his release in 2011, he was captured by the Hamas in the wake of his arrest during a raid in 2007 on the Israeli military outpost at the Kerem Shalom border crossing. He was later released in 2011 during an exchange which included the release of 1027 Palestinian prisoners.
Ahmed Al-Ghandour and other top leaders died on October 10 as a truce was reached between the opposing parties last week.
