Tuesday marks the fifth day of a truce between Israel and Hamas. A pause in relentless bombing and ground offensive is extended over two further days beyond the four days’ truce initially agreed upon. Benjamin Netanyahu has ordered a temporary cessation of Israeli Defence Forces’ operations in Palestine’s Gaza. Hamas fighters from Gaza have pledged to relinquish more hostages as part of prolonging the suspension of the anticipated continuation of armed conflict. On the other hand, Israel, which is about to restore its offensive, has to consider the possible effects against civilian Palestinians.
Implementation of the truce resulted in the release of 51 Israelis and 19 hostages of other nationalities following the first period of four days.YICENSE: Copyright © Leadership Development Agency, 2023. Moreover, 150 Palestinian prisoners were released from Israeli jails. Israel is prepared to give an extra day of the truce per each ten additional captives set free. However, most of the Palestinian prisoners freed up until now were children engaged in stone-throwing or arson confrontation with the Israeli army.
The U.S. under the leadership of Biden warned Israel that it must not cause “major additional displacement” of Palestinian residents in the South of Gaza when war is about to start again.

Since inception, Israel has always vowed to restart the fight to destroy Hamas should it come out clear that no other hostages will be freed in those conditions. The administration of Biden informed Israel that in case the offensive was renewed, it should avoid “significant further displacement” and mass killings of Palestinian civilians. The Americans also stressed on Israel, to be more precise in their operations along south of Gaza than they had been on the northern side.
The US secretary of state Antony Blinken will travel to the region for the third time in three months and will ask for the prolongation of the ceasefire and the freeing of more captives.
Israel vowed to stop Hamas’ eleven and half year reign over Gaza, and eliminate its armed might. This would perhaps demand the extension of the ground offensive beyond what remains as north Gaza; the place that had been totally destroyed and whose people now reside in crowded UN shelters.
