A 7.8 magnitude earthquake has struck Turkey, causing significant damage and leading to buildings collapsing. Another strong earthquake was also felt in multiple provinces in the area. The situation is ongoing, and further updates are expected.
The earthquake was centered approximately 33 km (20 miles) from Gaziantep and 26 km (16 miles) from the town of Nurdagi, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS). The depth of the earthquake was recorded as 18 km (11 miles) by the USGS.
Turkey’s Disaster and Emergency Management Agency is based in Pazarcik, Kahramanmaras province. The European Union is taking action by sending rescue teams and preparing additional assistance for Turkey, according to the bloc’s crisis management commissioner.

According to Commissioner Janez Lenarcic, teams from the Netherlands and Romania are en route to Turkey, with the EU’s Emergency Response Coordination Centre overseeing their deployment. This information was shared in a tweet by Lenarcic.
